SCBWI Zoom Event – Sketch and Scribble

Join us for an informal workshop into the creative process of Haiku and Haiga while we shine a light on some of South Australia’s amazing coastal regions.

Presented by author and poet Alys Jackson and illustrator and print maker Julia Wakefield, we will explore the crafting of Haiku, a Japanese poem of seventeen syllables, and using these to inspire the design of a Haiga, a style of Japanese painting that like the Haiku are often simple, profound and reflect the natural world around us.

Set along the shoreline of Port Noarlunga, located just south of Adelaide and at the start of the Encounter Bay Marine Park, this workshop will be presented in three stages.

Wednesday 20th May, a pre-recorded workshop (available from 6pm onwards) into the craft of Haiku’s and a snapshot of the Port Noarlunga region, along the shoreline and below the waves.

Friday 22nd May, from 6pm, a pre-recorded introduction (available from 6pm onwards) to Haiga and a selection of inspirational coastal scenes showing the diversity and beauty of our shorelines.

Sunday 24th May, 10.30am, our LIVE interactive workshop with Alys and Julia (via Zoom), sharing our creative pieces, discussing how and what inspired us and working through
some group activities.

We welcome members form all branches to join us as we take this moment to breathe in the salty air and appreciate the incredible beauty and poetry of our natural world.
