An Illustrator’s Project Guide
Adelaide illustrator, Timothy Ide, will talk about the process of illustrating a children’s book, from start to finish. He will address some of the pitfalls that can occur, what he tries to achieve when illustrating a project and where his inspiration comes from.
Five Reasons why I am now a writer of children’s books. And Five Reasons why I shouldn’t have been
‘Are we born writers or do we become writers? It is a question often up for discussion but if we’re not born writers, or perceive ourselves to be, what are the catalysts for change? What are the motivations of would-be authors in a huge industry where in Australia alone, 30,000 books are published annually? What does it take to maintain a sense of satisfaction and creative joy when the work of writing is so relentlessly hard and pitted against the odds of ‘no guarantees’?
By taking a glimpse into the writing life of an award-winning, Australian children’s author, Janeen Brian, discover what her stumbling blocks were, and why she continues to write today, having had over 100 children’s books published in many genres, as well as being translated and distributed world-wide. A journey singular, and yet, universal.’
Panel – Destination: Publication
Kelly Hibbert will be in conversation with Lisa Berryman to discuss the author and publisher path to publication. Joining them will be literary agent, Dyan Blacklock along with bookstore owner and booking agent, Becky Lucas. They’ll share how each of their roles can assist creator and book to have happy travels.
But wait! There’s more…
