Together with The Book Cow, SCBWI ACT is pleased to invite you to an Author Spotlight with award-winning author Dianne Wolfer.

Dianne will talk about Anthropomorphism and the Secret Powers of Animal Characters at the Book Cow. After the event, please feel free to join Dianne and other SCWBI members for dinner at Saffron Restaurant, Kingston (at your own cost).

Dianne has loved animal stories since she was little, and furry and finned creatures often find their way into her books. Exploring voice and character development via a dog is fun (The Dog with Seven Names) writing from a shark or giant octopus POV is more challenging (The Shark Caller). Dianne’s PhD research focused on crafting animal characters in Australian literature. Using examples from her work and others, Dianne shares ways authors use animals to tell stories, then gives a sneak peek of her forthcoming title Scout and the Rescue Dogs.

Dianne is the author of 23 books, including the acclaimed ‘Light’ series which has been adapted for stage and street theatre. Her latest title The Last Light Horse (a CBCA 2023 Notable Book) is the final story in her award-winning ‘Light series’. It joins CBCA Notable In the Lamplight as well as Lighthouse Girl and WA Premier’s Award winner Light Horse Boy. The series inspired Black Swan Theatre’s, The Lighthouse Girl, Perth street theatre, The Giants and is currently being re-adapted by Theatre 180.
